چکیده

Parallel compositing techniques have traditionally focused on distributed memory architectures with communication of pixel values usually being the main bottleneck. On shared memory architectures, communication is handled through memory accesses, obviating the need for explicit communication steps. Shared memory architectures with multiple graphics accelerators provide the capability for parallel rendering while combining the partial results from multiple graphics adaptors requires compositing. For this reason, in this paper shared memory architectures are considered for compositing operations. A number of previously introduced parallel compositing algorithms are compared on a shared memory machine, including the binary swap and parallel pipeline techniques.

Parallel Volume Rendering Unstructured Data: A DISTRIBUTED APPROACH

The development of e ective parallel rendering algorithms for unstructured volume data is challenging due to the irregular and adaptive nature of the corresponding meshes. Most of the algorithms developed previously have been mainly for shared-memory architectures. Only a distributed approach can better meet the computational and memory requirements of the rendering calculations. This paper pre...

cient Parallelization of Unstructured Reductions on Shared Memory Parallel Architectures ?

This paper presents a new parallelization method for an efcient implementation of unstructured array reductions on shared memory parallel machines with OpenMP. This method is strongly related to parallelization techniques for irregular reductions on distributed memory machines as employed in the context of High Performance Fortran. By exploiting data locality, synchronization is minimized witho...

Simple, Fast and Scalable Parallel Algorithms for Shared Memory (Thesis Proposal)

To ease the transition into the multicore/manycore era, shared-memory programming must be made more natural and accessible to the community. Furthermore, shared-memory algorithms need to be fast and scalable in order to quickly process large data. In this proposed thesis we will study techniques for simplifying parallel programming and allowing users to easily write efficient and scalable algor...

A Comparison of Shared Virtual Memory and Message Passing Programming Techniques Based on a Finite Element Application

This paper describes the methods used and experiences made with implementing a nite element application on three diierent parallel computers with either message passing or shared virtual memory as the programming model. Designing a parallel nite element application using message-passing requires to nd a data domain decomposition to map data into the local memory of the processors. Since data ac...

Ultra-Low-Energy DSP Processor Design for Many-Core Parallel Applications

Background and Objectives: Digital signal processors are widely used in energy constrained applications in which battery lifetime is a critical concern. Accordingly, designing ultra-low-energy processors is a major concern. In this work and in the first step, we propose a sub-threshold DSP processor. Methods: As our baseline architecture, we use a modified version of an existing ultra-low-power...
